Each term I hold a charity yoga week where I donate all my class fees, together with extra donations, to charity - alternating between The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and Action Breaks Silence each term.
TOTAL £1842.36 raised so far!
Giving back through yoga - what a wonderful way to show gratitude for all that we have!
ACTION BREAKS SILENCE
Summer Term 2017 saw me raising money once again for the amazing charity Action Breaks Silence. I am absolutely delighted to say that we raised £460.80 this term which together with previous amounts totals £1041.80 raised for this fantastic charity. The charity has been established to create a safer world - where women and girls can live their lives free from fear of sexual or gender-based violence. It aims to do this through educational and self defence workshops. To date, over 42,889 women and girls and 1,140 boys in India, South Africa and the UK have been trained free of charge.
£1017.80 raised so far! THANK YOU! That's 83 workshop places paid for and 83 lives changed! Using Yoga to help build a safer world.
Just £12.50 will provide a place for a boy or a girl at an Empathy or Empowerment workshop.
The two workshops they currently teach are as follows: The Empowerment programme - workshops created to empower and protect women and girls through education and practical personal safety skills and The Empathy programme - interactive workshops for 10 to 13 year old boys specifically designed to encourage them to play a part in ending violence against women, with the purpose of preventing the development of abusive or violent behaviour in the future. This is a UK registered charity, locally run and started by Debi Steven, whose karate club my daughter trained with for many years. For more information please visit www.actionbreakssilence.org
In India, surveys have shown that 848 women or girls are either harassed, raped or killed every single day. It seems hard to believe that this is going on in the same country that gave us yoga which is such a peace-loving and compassionate way of life. Let's use yoga to help make a difference.
Spring term 2017 saw me raising money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity once again. Thank you so much for all your kind donations. We raised over £540 which, together with the money we raised previously for The Royal Marsden, totals over £800 - wonderful! Thank you SO much.
The Royal Marsden Hospital is very close to my heart as it is where my dear Dad passed away and it was his passing, together with my own cancer diagnosis, that led me to re-evaluate my life and train to become a Yoga Teacher.
The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity is a world-leading cancer centre which pioneers new treatments that save lives. They use their research every day to provide the very best in diagnosis, treatment and care for their patients and they care for 50,000 patients each year. "I would like to extend a special thank you to The United Reformed Church, Hampton Hill, the Methodist Church Hall, Hampton and the Dance Direction Studio in Surbiton, for agreeing to donate their rent for my charity classes to the chosen cause. Thank you very much." Sarah
