TIPS FOR ONLINE CLASSES
I am using "Zoom" to deliver my online classes. It is free for you to use. You will receive the link in an email when you book your class and also an hour before class. If you are using an iPad or phone I believe you have to download the Zoom app first. You don't need to from a laptop or desktop. You don't need to register or create an account.
It is a good idea to click on the link 5-10 minutes before the start of the class so we can get the settings correct, you have time to position your screen correctly and it's always nice to say hello. You may wish to see everyone and say hello in "gallery view" first. Once we start the class, however, I suggest you are in "speaker view" where you'll just see me on screen. I will mute everyone for the duration of the class.
Ideally your mat or chair should be arranged so that when you look at yourself on screen you can see as much of yourself as possible - that is the view I have and I would like to be able to see you to ensure safe practice. I appreciate this isn't always possible though depending on your space. I suggest you have your mat short end on to the screen. I find it can work well to have the screen about 6 inches off the floor at the top left or right corner of the mat, far enough away from the mat so as much of you as possible is visible on the screen. That way I can see you and you can see the screen when you're facing the front of your mat and also when you're long/wide on the mat. It is all, however, furniture and space allowing!
If possible, find a quiet place in your home to do your class, ideally where you won't be interrupted. In the summer, some people enjoyed joining my classes from their gardens! Ensure your phone is turned to silent so it won't disturb you and make sure the device you are running the class on is fully charged.
You may like to have some props to hand - for the regular yoga classes these could include a belt, a block or cushion to sit on, and a yoga brick or a sturdy book - but I tend to email participants if we are going to use anything specific so don't worry too much, For the Chair Yoga classes we always use a belt (a dressing gown belt works well if you don't have a yoga belt, or a stretchy exercise band) and a ball - such as a tennis or golf ball, don't worry if you don't have either of these items though, we only use them for a short part of the class. Hand weights (you could always use tins of tomatoes or small water bottles) are optional in the Chair Yoga and Gentle Yoga classes. For meditation - you are welcome to sit on a cushion on the floor, or on a chair or even lie down. For the Yoga Nidra classes please look at the Yoga Nidra page (click here) for the full list of props that could be helpful.
