Each term I hold a charity yoga week where I donate all my class fees, together with extra donations, to charity - alternating between The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and Action Breaks Silence each term.
*** £5755.50 raised in total so far *** THANK YOU!!!
Giving back through yoga - what a wonderful way to show gratitude for all that we have!
THE ROYAL MARSDEN CANCER CHARITY
Thank you lovely people!! My April 2019 fundraising week raised a HUGE £869.70 for The Royal Marsden, taking the rolling total for this wonderful charity to £3281.70. I am so thrilled - THANK YOU!! The Royal Marsden Hospital is very close to my heart as it is where my dear Dad passed away and it was his passing, together with my own cancer diagnosis, that led me to re-evaluate my life and train to become a Yoga Teacher.
The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity is a world-leading cancer centre which pioneers new treatments that save lives. They use their research every day to provide the very best in diagnosis, treatment and care for their patients and they care for 50,000 patients each year. Visit their website to find out how money raised is spent www.royalmarsden.org.
Autumn Term 2018 saw me raising money once again for the amazing charity Action Breaks Silence. I am absolutely delighted to say that we raised a fantastic £684 which together with previous amounts totals £2473.80 raised for this fantastic charity. The charity has been established to create a safer world - where women and girls can live their lives free from fear of sexual or gender-based violence. It aims to do this through educational and self defence workshops. To date, over 48,000 women, girls and boys in India, South Africa and the UK have been trained free of charge.
£2473.80 raised so far! THANK YOU! That's 198 workshop places paid for and 198 lives changed! Using Yoga to help build a safer world.
Just £12.50 will provide a place for a boy or a girl at an Empathy or Empowerment workshop.
The charity runs two workshops: The Empowerment through Self Defence programme for women and girls, teaching them practical personal safety skills and The Hero Empathy programme - interactive workshops for 10 to 13 year old boys specifically designed to encourage them to play a part in ending violence against women, with the purpose of preventing the development of abusive or violent behaviour in the future. This is a UK registered charity, locally run and started by Debi Steven, whose karate club my daughter trained with for many years. For more information please visit www.actionbreakssilence.org
In India, surveys have shown that 848 women or girls are either harassed, raped or killed every single day. It seems hard to believe that this is going on in the same country that gave us yoga which is such a peace-loving and compassionate way of life. Let's use yoga to help make a difference.
