Yoga teaches us non-violence and compassion - it has love, acceptance and peace at its very core. Let's use yoga to help make a difference.
Each term I hold a charity week where I donate all my class proceeds, together with extra donations to different charities (listed below). I started my fundraising Charity Weeks a few years ago, the idea came to me when sitting in meditation - ideas often pop up when meditating.
Giving back through yoga - what a wonderful way to show gratitude for all that we have!
Hampton & Hampton Hill Voluntary Care - The Greenwod Centre £308 raised so far! Thank you!
Hampton & Hampton Hill Voluntary Care is a fantastic charity - based at The Greenwood Community Centre in Hampton Hill, where I teach most of my yoga classes. It has provided hundreds of thousands of hours of support to local people over the years, especially to those experiencing loneliness & social exclusion. They provide: befriending; social activities; community transport (volunteer car transport to doctors, hospitals and minibus shopping trips); an excursion programme; as well as managing the Greenwood Community Centre. Money we raise for this charity can provide welfare parcels to people's doorsteps, it can cover telephone costs which reach out to isolated people, it will help fund many of the services run by the centre as well as help maintain the actual building. Those who come to my classes know that a new roof is currently needed. PLEASE HELP!
I will donate all money from my teaching in my Charity Week in July 2023 and you can also donate directly here. I am also selling beautiful handmade lavender eye pillows - made by one of my students - for £15 each for this cause, email me firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to purchase one.
A series of devastating earthquakes have hit southern Turkey and north-west Syria killing at least 44,000 people and affecting over 18 million. People have been left without shelter in freezing winter conditions. Children have become orphans. Access to clean water will likely be a challenge, bringing the risk of cholera and other diseases. DEC charities and their local partners are among the first responders, working with locally-led relief efforts to ensure people have food and clean water. People need help now. Please donate.
The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity £5673 raised so far! Thank you!
The Royal Marsden Hospital is very close to my heart as it is where my dear Dad passed away and it was his passing, together with my own cancer diagnosis, that led me to re-evaluate my life and train to become a Yoga Teacher. The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity is a world-leading cancer centre which pioneers new treatments that save lives. They use their research every day to provide the very best in diagnosis, treatment and care for their patients and they care for 50,000 patients each year. Visit their website to find out how the money raised is spent www.royalmarsden.org.

It primarily works in the UK, India and South Africa educating, engaging and empowering communities to end such violence. They work with women and girls, empowering them through self defence workshops and run workshops for men and boys "Understanding Toxic Masculinity". They work with whole school communities to deliver this material and have developed programs that include their Youth Ambassador Programme to work directly with students and youths. I am delighted to be able to use my yoga teaching to raise money and awareness to help others. Spear is a charity, based in Twickenham, SW London, which does amazing work to support people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and helps them into accommodation, education, training and employment. Spear's mission is "To enable people experiencing homelessness in South and West London to find secure accommodation and work towards a positive future." I am deeply grateful for everything that I have in my life but so aware of the deep inequalities that exist in life.
Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal £1318 raised so far! Thank you!
My Charity Week in Spring 2022 raised money for the DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. It's unthinkable to know what's going on in Ukraine right now. More than 10 million people have fled their homes to escape conflict in Ukraine, leaving behind jobs, belongings and loved ones, they need shelter, food and water. Thank you to everyone who came to class or donated directly (or both). A fantastic £1318 was raised! Click hereto read about DECs Ukrainian appeal.
Hampton Hill Defibrillator Fund £614 raised! Thank you!
In July 2019 I happened to be aware of a local fundraising effort to raise money for the installation of life-saving defibrillators in the Hampton Hill area. I decided, therefore, to break away from my usual charities and chose this as my fundraising cause. I am delighted to say that my Charity Week, Summer term 2019, raised a fantastic £614 for this very worthy cause.A huge thank you to everyone who came to class and donated. There are now 3 defibrillators installed in Hampton Hill, SW London.
